All Stars Shine At Saturday's All Star Games

Posted: Updated:
The all stars of volleyball and football took center stage this past Saturday for the West Nebraska All Star Games.  And the players entertained the crowd from start to finish.

On the volleyball side the East All Stars would hold off Team West four sets to one to claim the win.

Behind Sidney grad Abbi Porter and Bayard grad Megan Stuart Team West opened the match with a set one win 25–20.

Set two also seemed promising for the West behind Mikayla Castro however the East would rally and take the momentum to win the set 25–17.

After the that the East never looked back winning set three 25–19 and then set four 25–16 and finally set five 15–11.

Creighton recruit and North Platte St Pat's grad Brittany Lawerence would lead the way for the East nailing 15 kills and four blocks earning MVP honors in the process.

While Sidney's Abbi Porter would end her high school career with 14 kills taking home Most Valuable Player honors for the West All Stars.

After losing seven straight all star games before last year the East are winners of two in a row in volleyball.

The 36th annual football game was just as exciting.

Team East would take a 19–6 lead into the 4th quarter and it seemed the game was over.

The rest of the way though belonged to Sidney grad and KOTA Territory Fab Five athlete Logan Lewis and the west side.

Team West would score 20 unanswered points in fourth to earn a thrilling 26-19 win.

Lewis capped the game by scoring the game winner with about 11 seconds remaining.

He would finish with 109 yards rushing and a touchdown earning offensive Most Valuable Player honors in the process.

The West win ends a three game losing streak to the East in all star football.

Great job by the 90 athletes and 12 coaches from both the volleyball and football games.
