Veterans applied to jobs at a huge job fair in Rapid City

Resumes in hand, active and retired veterans applied to jobs at a huge job fair in Rapid City Wednesday.

Western Dakota Tech played host to 90 employers. That's triple the number of employers at last year's Black Hills Veteran's Job Fair. The jobs range from entry-level telemarketers to medical to law enforcement. "We know that they'll show up on time, we know they'll be responsible, we know they'll be accountable and do what they're told when they're told, said Curt Lauinger, Career Services Coordinator. "So they make ideal candidates."

Thomas Kessler, a soon-to-be retired airman, says applying for jobs outside the military is intimidating, because many vets are used to a certain routine.
That's why job fairs like this are so helpful, as opposed to just searching online. "Here you can actually talk to somebody, instead of just looking at a job description and trying to figure out, 'Is this something I want to do? do I want to apply?' said Kessler.

Lauinger says the number of veterans who came out in the first hour was incredible. The event ran from noon until 5:00 p.m.
