BMS principal: summer school classes not a bad thing

Posted: Updated:
Class is still in session for some students in one KOTA Territory school district.

This month, students going into sixth through eighth grades are taking math and reading classes.

Bluffs Middle School principal Andrew Dick says middle-schoolers are in the classroom from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Dick says this is the third year the school district has offered two, 90-minute sessions to students and it seems to be working well.

He says there are 100 middle-schoolers at Bluffs Middle School taking summer classes. That number is up compared to the last two years but Dick says that is necessarily not a bad thing.

"Just because they're here doesn't mean that they're not smart or they're not a good student. It means that they need a little bit more time, a little extra support to be successful. We have some parents that want their students to be in summer school just so they don't fall behind in those two to three months in the summer," Dick explained.

Summer school classes throughout the district end Thursday, June 26th.
