Bridgeport to begin mosquito spraying Monday

Posted: Updated:
Members of the Bridgeport Utilities department are ready to spray city streets with insecticides and are asking residents for their cooperation.

Members plan to start spraying streets around 8 p.m. on Monday, June 23. Utilities director, Wayne Kautz, says officials will spray on Monday and Thursday nights every week through the summer.

He says the department will be using the insecticide Anvil 2 + 2.

Officials ask that residents close their windows during this time. They also suggest those with asthma or other breathing problems take additional precautions up to leaving the city for the evening.

Kautz says there is not a problem with mosquitoes in the city as of yet but with all the moisture the panhandle has already had the city is taking a precaution.

"With West Nile, people kind of get anxious with West Nile and stuff so we try and keep ahead of the game," said Kautz.

He says the spraying could last until midnight and could be postponed during inclement weather.

For more information on the product Anvil 2 + 2, residents can stop by City Hall at 809 Main Street, or go online to
