Nebraska Farm Bureau endorses Ricketts for Governor

Posted: Updated:
Republican gubernatorial candidate Pete Ricketts was in town Monday to receive a special endorsement to his campaign.

Officials and members of the Nebraska Farm Bureau gathered at the Emporium Cafe in Scottsbluff to declare Ricketts an official 'Friend of Agriculture'.

The Farm Bureau is the largest farm organization in the state of Nebraska, with members in each of the 93 counties in the state.

President of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, Steve Nelson, says the Bureau made the decision to endorse Ricketts because he knows ag-issues, and has the capability to grow the state's leading industry.

"I found Pete really understands agriculture issues," said Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson. "And that's extremely important to our members. He understands the issues we have related to taxes, particularly property taxes. He also understands the water issues we have all over the state."

Nelson says the Bureau is a grassroots organization, and the decisions the Bureau makes related to a political organization are grassroots as well, and are made by all the members of the Farm Bureau.

Ricketts says agriculture is the "heart and sole" of Nebraska, and will undoubtedly drive the prosperity of the state in the future.

"If we're going to grow Nebraska, its because we're going to grow agriculture," Ricketts said. "And I look forward to working with the Farm Bureau to be able to put together the plans so we can make sure we continue to have the strong agriculture economy we have here in Nebraska."

The Ricketts campaign and members of the Nebraska Farm Bureau will spend the next few days traveling the panhandle.

Ricketts will face off against Democratic candidate Chuck Hassebrook for governor in the general election on November 4.
