Scottsbluff's economic development plan receives feedback

Posted: Updated:
Scottsbluff city planners are reviewing public feedback on an economic development plan concerning the city and Scotts Bluff County.

During an open house on Thursday night city leaders and contractor, Thomas P. Miller and Associates, presented "10 big ideas" for the public to like, dislike or modify.

Some of the ideas focused on ways to improve the city and region, quality of life and attract new and better paying jobs.

Tom West, Vice President at Thomas P. Miller and Associates, says the ideas are "not pie in the sky ideas. They're things that can be accomplished, they'll take work but they can be accomplished."

"We don't like to create plans that sit on a shelf, we like to create plans that start dust not collect it. So we want to stick with the community through implementation," West said.

Annie Folck, Scottsbluff City Planner, says she wants the community to tell her where the city should be spending its funds when it comes to the regional economic development plan.

"The time to decide what kind of community to be is now. We don't want to be reacting to everything that happens to us, we want to go after opportunities and really make things happen," she said.

Folck says the new economic development plan is part of the city's master plan or comprehensive plan.

The comprehensive plan focuses on several elements including infrastructure, annexation, parks, community involvement, community services and many other aspects of community life and growth.
