United Way raises money in a colorful way

Posted: Updated:
Just shy of a thousand runners, walkers, joggers and strollers took to the streets this weekend, for one of United Way’s most colorful fundraisers.

Colored hues flew into the air at the kick-off of the second annual Color Dash on Saturday.

The 5K run has grown to be one of United Way’s largest fundraising events, the inaugural run brought in about $15,000 dollars last year.

United Way’s Special Events Co-Chair Brady Shaul says the event has grown this year, in attendance, participation, and excitement.

"There’s just some sort of appeal to be able to come out and run or walk with your family, kind of a family event. And being able to get doused in paint, there’s just something fun about it. And its kind of all around fun for everybody, whether you’re running to really run it or just there to have fun"

Shaul says now that the colored dust has settled, members of United Way are now focusing their efforts on their next big fundraiser: the rubber duck dash.
