Gering kids make robots from recyclable materials

Posted: Updated:
Kids at a local library are giving new life to old, recyclable materials.

A robot-a-thon took over the Gering Public Library yesterday.

Kids and families used donated recyclables to create new creatures.

Christie Clarke, Youth Services Librarian says the robot-making event is part of the 'Fizz, Boom, Read' summer reading program, and would not have been possible without the community's input.

"We put up fliers and we asked the community to donate anything they had that was recyclable such as old cereal boxes, oatmeal boxes, we even have little cherry tomato containers. Toilet paper rolls, 2 liter bottles, anything you could think of that can be recycled."

The recyclable-robots will be on display at the library for the duration of the summer reading program.
