An earthwork crew broke ground in Chadron Monday for Phase II of the Chadron State College Rangeland Complex.

The first phase of the Rangeland Complex began in 2011, with the Coffee Agriculture Pavilion that opened in 2013.

Crews are now working on the second phase of the project, which includes a 12,500  square foot building that will house laboratories and classrooms for studying soils and animals.

Phase II will also provide office space for instructors, a lobby and a large outdoor deck overlooking the Chadron State Campus.

Phase II is scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.

The predominantly state-funded project is estimated at $3.8 million.
