Melbeta robbery caught on tape; suspect remains at large

Posted: Updated:

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department continues to seek the public's help to track down a man who was involved in a string of robberies in Melbeta.
35-year-old Travis Don Leier is believed to be responsible for a Monday afternoon robbery at the 'Melbeta All Around'. Leier is also considered a suspect in the theft of a blue 2006 Dodge Ram pickup, Nebraska license 21-13096.

That vehicle was reported stolen from a nearby residence shortly after the incident at the convenience store.

Surveillance footage caught Leier loading a large amount of liquor onto the counter at the Melbeta All Around. Then at one point he reaches towards the cash register with a pair of pliers and attempts to access the cash.

The clerk pulled most of the merchandise away, and proceeded to chase him out of the store and down an alley.

Store owner Pam Conklin is thankful no one was hurt; although the courageous efforts by the clerk were not advised.
"I told our staff that if we ever got robbed - and it was *when* we got robbed not *if*- because it probably would happen, to take their phone, run out the back door and call the cops," explains Conklin. "Don't mess with them. That's not what happened this day."
The suspect ... 35 year old Travis Don Leier is from Rapid City. He is a white male, 6'3, 239 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark shorts.
Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts should contact law enforcement.
