TWINS-MARINERS

Morales, Gibson lead Twins to 8-1 rout of Mariners

SEATTLE (AP) - Kendrys Morales knocked in three runs and Kyle Gibson pitched six shutout innings to lead the Minnesota Twins to an 8-1 rout of the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.

Chris Colabello hit a two-run double, Brian Dozier scored twice and the Twins put up eight runs in the first four innings to chase an ineffective Roenis Elias. The rookie lasted a career-low 3 1-3 innings, yielding seven runs - six earned - and seven hits with three walks.

Gibson allowed multiple baserunners in three innings and only retired the side in order once. But he worked around seven hits and a walk, rebounding from a rough outing against the New York Yankees.

He gave up six runs, five earned, and six hits in two innings of a 6-5 loss last Friday.

WILD-ALMOND

Wild sign Cody Almond to 1-year contract

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Cody Almond to a one-year contract.

Almond scored 18 goals and had 16 assists in 44 games with Geneve-Servette in the Swiss League in 2013-14. Almond also scored eight goals and had 22 assists in 39 games with Geneve-Servette in 2012-13.

The 24-year-old native of Calgary, Alberta, was originally selected by the Wild in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. He played 25 games with Minnesota in parts of three seasons and scored two goals.

Almond also scored 29 goals and had 38 assists in 159 games with the AHL's Houston Aeros from 2009 to 2012.

SKYFORCE COACH-HORNETS

Sioux Falls Skyforce coach lands NBA assistant job

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls Skyforce head coach Pat Delany is moving on to the NBA.

Charlotte Hornets General Manager Rich Cho announced Wednesday that the team has added Delany as an assistant coach under head coach Steve Clifford.

Delany spent last season as head coach of the Skyforce, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Miami Heat. He led the team to a 31-19 record.

Before coming to the Skyforce, Delany served as the Heat's advance scout for six seasons from 2007-13. He was Miami's video coordinator for four seasons from 2003-07 following one season as a video intern.

PHILLIES-BREWERS

Hernandez cruises, Phillies beat Brewers 4-1

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley homered to support Roberto Hernandez's solid start, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 on Wednesday night for their third straight win over the NL Central leaders.

Hernandez needed just 84 pitches in eight innings to dispatch the aggressive Brewers, who have lost four straight and eight of nine. Hernandez allowed three hits, and Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save.

Veterans Rollins and Utley homered off Kyle Lohse, who at one point retired 13 straight batters after Utley's first-inning solo shot.

But Lohse gave up a leadoff single to Cameron Rupp in the sixth before Rollins hit a 2-1 hanging curve with two outs over the wall in right field for a two-run lead.
