Tourism numbers up in the panhandle

Posted: Updated:
With summer weather warming up much of the panhandle, tourism numbers are going strong.

All of the events in the past month have brought in a record number of tourists, according to Scottsbluff Area Visitors Bureau Director Brenda Leisy.

Leisy says that it has been wonderful to see so many different people travel great distances to see some gems in the panhandle.

"Of course we added a couple of new events that we saw in June that typically we do not see," says Leisy. "And that would of course have been the 2014 cattleman's ball and the Chautauqua. So those two events brought a substantial amount of extra people into the valley, which helped drastically pull our numbers way up."

Leisy says although the bigger events are over, she expects the coming months to be just as busy.
