Panhandle Quilt Guild has another successful run

Posted: Updated:
Some local quilters want the public to know that the hobby is not the stereotypical activity that most think it is.

The Panhandle Quilt Guild has gathered since 1992 during Oregon Trail Days to show off some of their quilters' best work.

This year there were over 100 quilts and crowds filing in to see the detailed work of some of the quilters in the panhandle. Quilt show chair Diane Downer says many people would be surprised to see some of the work that they have on display.

"We have a lot of wonderful quilters in the panhandle area," says Downer. "Even just in the panhandle quilt guild we have over 100 members. And it's just a fun way of getting together with people who share a common theme. Quilts are very giving and loving and fun to make and we just really enjoy it."

They have even added a youth category to encourage kids to start quilting.
