Rain brings good news for crops

Posted: Updated:
This weekend brought inches of rain for agriculture producers.

Many people think that farmers need all of the moisture, but is there such thing as too much?

The rainfall from this past weekend provided crops with plenty of moisture, much of which can still be seen. Soil and nutrient management specialist Dr. Gary Hergert says the moisture is a great thing for ag producers.

"Well for ag producers it means that we are going to have plenty of water to get through the irrigation season," says Hergert. "We've got excellent growing conditions. We've got a really good looking crop coming on. It means we should have some very good yields if we're able to dodge any late season hailstorms."

Hergert says there is really no such thing as too much moisture in the state of Nebraska because rainfall never reaches a level that high.
