60,000 sq ft Hobby Lobby moving into Monument Mall

"Its official!" said Andy Weiner, President of RockStep Capital."Its official we have approval from Hobby Lobby to announce they are coming to Scottsbluff."

The new Hobby Lobby store will take up 60,000 square feet of the former Walmart building in the Monument Mall campus.

Weiner says construction on the Hobby Lobby 'mega store' should start by mid September or early October, with a projected opening sometime this spring.

"I think Hobby Lobby is a great addition to the Scottsbluff-Gering region," Weiner said. "A typical Hobby Lobby store carried over 57,000 different items, a variety similar to Walmart."

Weiner says Hobby Lobby will provide a 'fun shopping experience' for families, without having to travel out of town.

"I know a lot of people from Gering and Scottsbluff travel to other markets to shop at Hobby Lobby, including Cheyenne, and they wont need to do so anymore starting in the second quarter of next year."

Weiner says there are also two other major retailers in negotiations.

"We have a major national clothing store that will be opening up between November 15 and December 15 of this year. They are very well known, and we are working through construction right now. I am not able to share their name until we have permission to do so."

Weiner said there's another 40,000 square foot store that will open up next to Hobby Lobby in the second quarter of next year, but he also does not have permission to release the retailer's name. "They're very well known, and they will be very appreciated by the region," he said.

In addition to retail and merchandising, RockStep is also looking to add more restaurants and eateries to the Monument Mall.

"We're working with three other national retailing and restaurant chains currently to figure out what locations they will take and what timing they will have for opening."

Weiner says RockStep's target plan is to bring in 10 new stores to the mall over the next three years. "As we have permission from these companies, we will let the community know."
