GHS Class of '64 helps purchase new uniforms for high school band

Posted: Updated:
A Gering High School class of the past is helping out students in the future.

A handful of cash and checks were handed over to the Gering band director Tuesday.

An auction over the weekend hosted by the Gering High School Class of 1964 raised nearly $1,300 dollars to help purchase new band uniforms for the Gering High School band.

Director of Bands Randy Raines says the school desperately needs about 100 to 110 new uniforms, as the ones the students are wearing now are nearing 20 years old.

He says the money from the class of '64 helps out tremendously.

"This amount of money right here will probably buy 3, maybe 4 uniforms, and that's a lot, that's a lot of money."

Raines says he has a prototype of the new uniform that he will bring to the school board next week for approval.

If all goes according to plan, the new uniforms should be in by late next school year.
