Cancer survivors celebrate life

Posted: Updated:
Locals who share one common bond gathered Tuesday evening for their annual picnic.

Cancer survivors along with their friends and family stepped out into the great weather to celebrate life.

According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is responsible for one of every four deaths.

Carol Diffendaffer, an oncologist social worker with Regional West, says your life is forever changed when you have cancer and it's nice to have a little fun through the process.

"The life experiences of those who've undergone cancer treatment is just a little different than someone who hasn't experienced that disease," explains Diffendaffer. "And so their life journey can be told to other people, the issues they went through and how well they've survived and thrived since and how beautiful life is. The people can celebrate these things."

The funds to put on the annual event are donated by the Cancer Center at Regional West.
