Autopsy rules Morrill County man died in accidental drowning

Posted: Updated:

An autopsy for a Morrill County man states that an accidental drowning was the official cause of death.

50-year-old Brett Golden died following a car accident at Bridgeport State Recreation Area Wednesday night.

An Alliance couple were the first to call 911, after noticing a license plate sticking out of one of the western-most ponds at the S.R.A.

Crews pulled a blue Ford Taurus out of the water, and Golden was found dead inside the vehicle. Morrill County Sheriff Milo Cardenas says the man was last seen by his family around 9 a.m. Wednesday. He says that it appears that the car crashed along the left side of a tree on the edge of the pond and submerged.

The park was closed to the public while crews worked to get the vehicle out of the water.

Other agencies involved in Wednesday night's recovery were the Bridgeport Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Bridgeport Rural Fire Department and the Game and Parks Commission.
