Iconic comic book character dies; fans say good for sales

Posted: Updated:
Comic book icon Archie Andrews is dead, at least in the Life with Archie series.

Whether you're a fan of the Archie comic books which have been published for more than 70 years, anyone can relate to the death of a protagonist in a book, movie, or play.

The Life of Archie series focuses on Archie's adulthood after high school and college.

In the latest issue which was released on Wednesday, the Riverdale character gets shot in the stomach while saving his gay best friend Kevin Keller, a politician who supports gun control.

Other comic book series of Archie's younger life and love-triangle with Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge will still be published.

Ron Sterkel, a local comic book reader from Gering, says some people may not agree with how the main character dies but his death, which has a lot of people talking, is great for sales.

"I think it'll boost their sales, it'll get a lot of interest generated for Archie. I've never read Archie much. I do know a little about the universe with Archie and Jughead and Betty and Veronica. They have a lot of books out. I think it'll help their sales. Generate interest," said Sterkel.

In Scottsbluff, fans can purchase the issue at several locations including Cheema's Gas & Liquor, Wal-Greens, Panhandle Coop, FTC Express, and K-Mart.
